Copper is used in the making of a strong Romanian alcoholic drink, alcohol can be a strong hugging mechanism. Also, in contrast with the Romanian torture machine, the hugging machine has its own intimate space a warmer light and an overall feeling of being contained. Both objects are very similar, the sense we give depends on the context.
